Abstract
The article deals with the legislative framework of education in Ukraine, describes the main legal acts
that establish the need for the creation of competences in the field of intellectual property of specialists in
different directions. The article analyzes European, Japanese and American experience of incorporating the
study of intellectual property issues into the teaching and learning process at the levels of primary, secondary
and higher education. It is determined that the problem of including the studies of intellectual property as an academic discipline into curricula exists not only in Ukraine. The research proves that acquisition of
knowledge in the field of intellectual property by future teachers is the basis for the implementation of the
New Ukrainian School model and creation of a knowledge society, as well as for the rise of the economy to a
higher level. Some perspective areas of research in this area include identification of the content of the
discipline «Intellectual Property» for students of pedagogical specialties, formulation of competence of the
future teacher in this area, improvement of legal regulations of intellectual property education and
assessment of the level of the development of future teachers’ relevant competences.
