Abstract

The article considers topical problems of modern professional education. The first one deals with the necessity of ensuring high-quality training of suitably qualified staff for the IT-industry. The next issue is related to the formation of a new educational environment based on the concept of people-oriented training and competence approach. The implementation of these concepts in the process of software engineers’ training creates conditions for an independent choice of the length and content of education.

The article analyzes the current status of the short-term software engineers’ training programs in higher education of Ukraine, offers a review of the introduction of such programs at universities (advanced training, postgraduate education, professional courses), and emphasizes the importance of taking into consideration the experience of non-formal training (short-term courses) of IT-specialists. The problems of the interaction between formal and non-formal education are indicated. The paper provides an analysis of the prevalence of non-formal IT-education in Ukraine and an overview of some well-known educational centers.
