Abstract

The article deals with the problem of improving the quality of future teachers-engineers’ competence
development regarding their ability to design methods of teaching technical disciplines.
The main objective of engineering and pedagogical education is to train future teachers- engineers to
be able to teach classes in difficult technical disciplines and to keep up with the latest trends in this sphere.
So, future teacher-engineers have to be able to design training projects for all disciplines in the abovementioned field. In other words, they are expected to develop enough competence to design methodology of
teaching technical disciplines.
The methodological analysis of the pedagogical design problem allows considering it at four different
levels such as philosophical, general scientific, specifically scientific and methodological.
The article defines the essence of the concept "teaching methods", which includes a branch of
pedagogical science that investigates the regularities of the teaching process for a certain discipline, in other
words, the development of training projects at different levels (sections, topics, classes).
The ability to perform well an activity at the stage of the training project creation defines the level of
the teacher-engineer’s competence related to designing teaching methods.
We regard the competence of designing teaching methods as a derivative of methodological
competence, and the article proves this statement. In turn, methodological competence is knowledge of
didactics and ability to reasonably and theoretically design the educational process for a specific didactic
situation. In turn, the design of the educational process includes a number of stages such as modeling,
designing and constructing.
